Compassion defined

Doubts have been raised as to the meaning of compassion. Empathy and compassion are often used in the same sense. But compassion, as I understand, is empathy in action. It could also mean as love in action. Emapthy is deeper listening,' a respectful understanding of what others are feeling and experiencing'.
